Freshly baked, artisinal sourdough bread ad-on!

Hello Two Toad Farm community,

I’m writing today to let you know about an exciting new opportunity we are offering ONLY our CSA members this summer…a freshly-baked sourdough bread add-on from our good friend Jackie at The Humble Loaf!!  A perfect complement to your vegetable share, you can receive a different sourdough bread each Monday when you pick up your vegetables!  Breads range from traditional whole grain sourdough and anadama, to Jewish ryes, oatmeal, and her famous black pepper and turmeric.  Each loaf is not only nutritionally dense and delicious, but is an absolute work of art. Check out her website for a glimpse of her magic!  www.TheHumbleLoafBakery.com

The Humble Loaf, an awesome new bakery in downtown Sanford, produces artisan sourdough breads. You may know Jackie from your visits to the Sanford Farmers’ Market this past summer, or the Berwick Winter Market.  You simply cannot find bread this good anywhere, and she sells out early EVERY SINGLE MARKET.  The Humble Loaf bread add-on means you will have a freshly-baked loaf of bread waiting for you when you pick up your vegetables each Monday!  The bread add-on costs only $90 for the 15 weeks, which gets you these incredible breads for more than $1 off her retail prices, without having to remember to pre-order for market day, or beat the rush on Saturday mornings!

To sign up, please mail a check made payable to Two Toad Farm, 147 Sunset Rd, Springvale, Maine 04083 for $90 either with your CSA sign-up, or if you have already signed up, you can just send it separately with a note in the memo “Bread CSA”.  This deal is available only to Two Toad Farm Summer Vegetable CSA members!  We are working to have the sign up available on our website (credit card fee will be included), so stay tuned. Support this incredible new business in Sanford, and enjoy amazing bread every week this summer!

Kindly,

Marybeth and Jordan

Two Toad Farm Seedling CSA 2020

Our 9th year offering a pre-planned garden CSA

Garden planting continues throughout the season.  Getting your seedlings at the peak of health and at the perfect time to plant is just as important as figuring out WHAT to plant. That’s exactly what you get when you become a member of our seedling CSA along with tips, tricks and advice that will teach you how to organically grow your own food.  A seedling CSA share gets you over 400 plants divided over 5 different pickups spanning 2 months of the planting season.  Shares include early crops to late crops with hot crops in the middle.  There is a wide selection of proven varieties for our area we’ve been growing on our farm for years.  You get written instructions tailored to each pickup that include information like: how to prep your soil, how to plan your garden layout, how to plant, how to cultivate how to prevent pests and disease, how to treat pests and disease, how and when to harvest, what, where, and when to cover crop, how to use mulch, and whatever else may come up during the growing season.  Some crops are best directly seeded into the soil so are not part of the seedling CSA—things like peas, beans, carrots, beets, salad mix and potatoes.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered!

CSA Sign Up is starting NOW: early bird sign up special!

2020 CSA sign up is HERE!  Take advantage of our early bird sign up offers!!

We are offering a special gift if you sign up for our CSA before January 15, 2020—PURE MAPLE SYRUP!!

Full share: free liter

Half share: free large flask

Seedling Share: mini flask

Marketshares: mini flask

This syrup is from our friends at True Mountain Maple and is something special.  All the syrup is packed in glass bottles and is fired from wood harvested on site.  Also, every one of the taps are placed by hand via snowshoe and and all of the sap is gravity fed into the sugar house.  This means NO GAS OR DIESEL of any kind is burned during the entire syruping season ensuring the most pure, delicious product you can get.

If you pay in full by the first day of spring (March 21) you get $20.00 off the total price of your Full or Half vegetable share.  Remember returning CSA members from any year or any type of share ALWAYS get an additional $20.00 off of the price of their vegetable share.

What this means– an example: A returning member buying a full share and paying in full by Jan 15 will pay just $360 AND get a free liter of pure maple syrup. That’s a great deal.

Happy Holidays from Two Toad Farm!! {Looking toward 2020}

It’s time when the days are short—but finally getting longer.  It’s also time to think about the new year and what motivates us for the future.  For us, it’s bringing food to the people.  It’s building our local food economy from the soil up.  It’s contributing to the health of our community.  This year we will be breaking ground on our own farm land.  After leasing for 12 years, we will finally have the stability to know that every bit of soil fertility we build will be ours. Here’s to all of our customers who helped make it happen.  Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!

Spring FEVER!: Actual 2017 CSA Veggie share pick ups.

With one of the coldest, wettest springs anyone can remember (even farmers that have been producing veggies for over 4 decades), last year the farming season had an extremely rough start to say the least.  Despite other local CSA’s skipping weeks because of no crops, Two Toad Farm still had veggies for Monday pickups.  CSA shares always start out a bit lighter with more cold hardy crops and greens.  Pickups slowly evolve throughout the growing season with more veggies being added as they mature.   With plantings pushed further and later into the season,  things finally evened out and then gave way to a long, warm fall that just barely allowed some, but not al of the winter squash to ripen and the potatoes to size up.  Compare past years’ distributions to get a sense of what can be included in a veggie share as well as the 2017 list.
